Teenagers, Education and Condoms A new research study conducted by study group PloS Medicine asserted that the spread of human immunodeficiency virus can be effectively contained through teaching teenagers on how to use condoms properly. The research has proven that people can help curtail the widespread of the virus that leads to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS. Teenagers & AIDS: Do They Know Enough? In reviewing recent public health data, AIDS incidence and prevalence among teenagers and young adults in the U.S. is still consistently high and disturbing. One reason for this is that, according to some studies, the average age of sexual initiation has gone lower, sometimes as young as 13 to 15 years old. This would translate that teenagers entering high school have already lost their virginity and may have been engaging in active sexual life. This also places the need of implementing a sexual education especially designed for younger minds, so as to prevent the establishment and practice of reckless and unsafe sex early on. Teenagers and Sex: How to Approach It Properly There’s no denying it, teenagers spend more of their time thinking about sex than any other subject. There should be no shame associated with it, because hormones play a large part in this matter and sexual development is an important part in a person’s physical and mental growth.
